AlixPartners Hires Hoyoung Pak as Managing Director in Chicago

Consulting firm AlixPartners has hired Hoyoung Pak as managing director of its digital practice in Chicago.

Pak brings over 20 years of experience in management consulting and industry roles applying artificial intelligence to the private equity, consumer, retail and TMT sectors. He also has expertise in consumer insights, retail analytics, pricing and digital operations.

Pak has spent the past three and a half years as Chief Operating Officer at SGS & Co., a global packaging design and graphics company. During his tenure with the company, he drove an enterprise-wide transformation that reduced costs by 30% through offshoring and automation. The program included adding AI and machine learning capabilities to improve efficiency and create new offerings.

Prior to that, he was President and CEO of Ace Wholesale Holdings, a $360 million division of Ace Hardware; Executive Vice President of Global Operations and Data Science at IRI, a large market research firm; SVP of Operations at Groupon; and vice president of customer service at Discover Financial Services.

Prior to taking on leadership roles in industry, Pak spent seven years at McKinsey & Company, where he was most recently Associate Director of Retail Customer Service on assignments in supply chain, store operations and stock management.

Hoyoung holds an MBA from Northwestern University and Ph.D., MS, and BS degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He is a five-time national martial arts champion in the North American Sport Karate Association circuit and played Donatello in the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle II: The Secret of the Ooze. His brother Ho-Sung Pak, also a martial arts champion, is a veteran Hollywood stuntman who played Liu Kang and Shang Tsung in the original Mortal Kombat video game (game developer Midway’s offices were in Chicago in the early 90s).
