Cabrillo College commissioned the painting of a Latinx-inspired mural on its Aptos campus by local artist and Cabrillo graduate Francisco Alonso. The mural is part of Cabrillo’s efforts to promote its diversity and celebrate its status as an institution of Hispanic service, according to the college statement. The painting process is expected to start on Monday. The painting will take about a month.

The commission for this mural was funded by a grant from the Cabrillo College Foundation and the Associated Students of Cabrillo College.

“I am honored to have been selected to paint this mural, which I call ‘Unity’ on the Cabrillo College Aptos campus,” Alonso said in a prepared statement. The mural will be located on an elevator tower at the Cabrillo Aptos campus just beyond the bust of Martin Luther King.
