Officers elected to the Board of Directors of the Betty Griffin Center

The Betty Griffin Center board of directors has elected new officers for the 2021-22 fiscal year, while three new members have joined the association’s board of directors.

Lisa Payne, branch manager at Ameris Bank and a member of the board since 2016, has been elected chair of the board. Jayne Evans, managing director of consulting firm Heart Touch, which has served on the board since 2019, has been elected vice president.

Tim Conlan, vice president of business operations for Reliant Roof and Solar, who has served on the board since 2017, has been elected secretary, and Melissa Angulo, a CPA who joined the board in 2020 and is currently a director The Plantation’s financial institution in Ponte Vedra, was elected treasurer.

In addition, three new members were elected to the board of directors. These include:

  • Saundra A. Jackson, resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, doctor of SAJMD Inc. Emergency Resources Group

  • Rose Marie Preddy, Johns Resident, Senior Counsel at Preddy Law Firm, Pennsylvania
  • Gloria Staats, Johns resident, interior designer and owner of Peace of Mind Design

“Our new leadership team is committed to our mission, and our new board members all know our agency and have already been involved in the important work we do for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in our community,” said Betty Griffin Center. CEO Joyce Mahr. “With the growing need for our services in St. Johns County, their experience will help us maintain and expand the level of service needed over the coming year. “

The Betty Griffin Center was founded in 1990 by concerned citizens and incorporated as a St. Johns County Safety Shelter to develop plans to provide shelter for local victims of domestic violence and their children.

Today, the Betty Griffin Center houses more than 420 victims of domestic and sexual violence each year, operates a 24-hour helpline, provides professional counseling to victims of domestic and sexual violence, offers prevention training of age-appropriate violence and operates two thrift stores in Julington. Square and Anastasia Square to help fund the agency’s day-to-day operations.
