Retired educator returns to serve on school board

LIVINGSTON, La. (BRPROUD) – The Livingston Parish School Board is appointing a new member to serve on the District 8 council.

Educator Norman Picou will serve as an interim member of the District 8 school board, following the resignation of Frank Parrino. Parrino was supposed to hold the position until the end of the year, but he was struggling with health issues.

The primary election for school board seats will be held on November 8 and, if necessary, run-off elections will be held on December 10. The deadline to qualify applicants is July 20-22.

“I retired from the system with nearly 35 years of education experience, 23 of them in Livingston Parish. I felt serving on a temporary basis would be a way to give back to the system and help District 8 until voters could choose a new representative,” Picou said.

Picou says he has no intention of running for the open seat when the elections begin.

“I was vice principal at Juban Parc Junior High School when this school opened. It was exciting to be a part of the opening of this new school and what it meant to this community. From there, I was fortunate enough to transfer to Springfield Middle School and later to Springfield High School, where I served as Principal of both schools. Livingston’s parochial school system has been good to me; it has played a vital role in my life, and I am so happy to be able to give back to this title, ”added Picou.
