The Bridgton Great Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce is in transition.

On Monday, the House announced that Executive Director Sue Mercer was leaving the organization.

“The Chamber of Commerce would like to bid a loving farewell to Sue Mercer. She served the House well for seven years and we would like to wish her the best in her future endeavors, ”read the press release. The same message is the main information on the House website.

The Released noted that the House is currently staffed Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 am to 4 pm and Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm “to serve and support our members”.

The news contacted Mercer by email, but did not receive a response.

House Board Chair Heidi Edwards (Personal Banker, Savings Bank of Norway) commented on the direction the organization plans to take.

“First of all, I would like to share that, like many other organizations, going through the last year with COVID has really made the House Board of Directors assess our effectiveness as well as our efficiencies. We have a full board for the first time in a long time and many of our directors are new to us and bring with them a variety of experiences and new ideas! We are working hard to re-evaluate what we are doing, why we are doing it and how we are doing it, ”said Edwards. “We are improving our technology and working to better support local businesses. It will be a truly transitional year for the House.

Edwards said the House may skip the executive director position and take a different approach.

“The position Sue left is not necessarily the one we need to fill; although we haven’t defined the details yet, ”she said. “With a volunteer board of business professionals, these things take a bit longer than a regular business, so you’ll have to stay tuned a bit longer. ”

Edwards added that given most of the proposed changes, “Sue felt it was time for her to move on.”

“She will be missed by the Board of Directors and by our members. Sue has brought a lot to her position. She was a very outgoing and kind face to the House. Sue knows everyone and everyone who knows Sue likes her. She was really involved in the affairs of the House and worked hard to maintain membership levels; always being one of the first people to contact new companies to welcome them to the region and invite them to join the Chamber ”, declared the President of the Chamber. “Sue also coordinated a lot of after-hours events and was the person you could count on to work in any capacity needed at our fundraising events. She was very proud to be the organizer of our annual awards dinner; Sharing our members’ successes was a highlight for Sue! ”

The Chamber’s board of directors for 2021 includes: President, Heidi Edwards, Savings Bank of Norway; Vice-President, Michele Jordan, Badger Realty; Past President, Kristine Karlsson, Chalmers Insurance Group; secretary, Jessica Putnam, Edward Jones Investments; Treasurer, Dylan Anderson, Jones & Matthews PA

The Board of Directors includes: Dana Chandler of Chandler Funeral Home, Charlotte Kelly of Key Bank, Ken Murphy of The Umbrella Factor, Nicholas Orgo of MANE Catering and Event Services, Jill Rollins of Bridgton Hospital, Brian Sullivan of Bear Mountain Inn and Ruth York from Pointe Sebago.
